Missouri Cattle on Feed Inventory

During the most recent 15 years, Missouri producers have maintained significantly smaller cattle on-feed inventories compared with the previous 15 years. Missouri’s cattle-on-feed inventory averaged 71,667 head from 2001 to 2015. This inventory value averaged 96,875 head between 1985 and 2000. On January 1, 2015, Missouri cattle on feed inventory totaled 70,000 head.

Missouri ranked 21st for cattle on feed inventory. U.S. cattle feeding operations are highly concentrated in a few states. On Jan. 1, 2015, the top five states for cattle on feed inventory captured nearly 72 percent of all U.S. cattle on feed inventory.
