Beef Production Costs

Based on the USDA Economic Research Service production budgets and a 1,820,000 beef cow inventory, the table below shares estimated total operating expenses incurred for all Missouri cow-calf operations during 2014. Given these variables, Missouri cow-calf producers had an estimated $1.3 billion in operating expenses. Feed costs represented more than two-thirds of total operating expenses. Per cow, operating expenses averaged $723.35 in Missouri in 2014.
